Norton Power — Ensuring Safety

Pit Covers

Earth-pit inspection covers in both square and round profiles — heavy-duty cast iron, GI, SMC and corrosion-proof polymer, with lockable lids for IS 3043 testing access.

An earth pit cover protects the inspection chamber where an earthing electrode is terminated — keeping the connection accessible for resistance testing while shielding it from damage, moisture, and casual tampering. Norton Power supplies pit covers in three material variants: cast iron (heavy duty, vehicular load), galvanized iron (medium duty, pedestrian areas), and SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound — lightweight, non-conductive, corrosion-proof).

Standard sizes match IS 3043 pit dimensions, with custom sizes available on request. Each cover ships with a frame designed to be set flush with finished ground level. SMC variants are increasingly specified for solar plants and substations where their non-conductive properties eliminate any risk of inadvertent step-potential at the cover itself.

Frequently asked questions

Which material should I choose for my pit cover?
Cast iron is the right choice where the cover may see vehicular load (driveways, industrial yards). GI is the standard choice for pedestrian areas and indoor installations. SMC is preferred for solar plants and high-voltage substations where its non-conductive properties remove any risk of step-potential at the cover.
Can I order a custom size?
Yes. Standard sizes (300×300, 450×450, 600×600 mm) are stocked; non-standard sizes are manufactured to order. Share your pit dimensions and we will quote.
